Malawi urban music is nowadays a package of outstanding talented young men and ladies, Wakisa James is one of these kind of people that makes the package worth a listen. This upcoming singer/songwriter is based in Mzuzu, Malawi's northern city and is signed to ofatsa music inc. The young star never took no time to realise that he got something within himself, something more valuable. He knew that he could use that something for good, he knew he would entertain, educate and perhaps inspire and motivate others with it. That something was the music that he felt from deep within his heart.
The love of using his music to reach out to others caught his heart just by the tender age of 14, that time was just so magical to him and ever since his dream is to reach out to almost every human being out there regardless of their race, nationality, tribe and age.During his secondary school days Wakisa realised that school should be his priority so he took a break from recording and dedicating much of his time to music. His break was only for 2years thats from 2008 to 2010.
When he got back into the music business it was just a non stop journey for him, nothing would come into the way as he was fully armed to take over the music industry. He formed a clique known as EK Bwaiz with his friend and the clique made a very impressive impact in the urban music of the northside. In 2012 Wakisa's music journey just got fueled up when he got signed to a South African based entertainment firm known as Best Variety Entertainment. Under the firm he released a track dubbed kamkazi which enjoyed massive airplay both on Tv and on radio. The music video was directed by one of Malawi's best directors Chipie Khonje.
Followings some challenges with Best Variety Entertainment Wakisa had to part ways with them and maybe look for greener pasture somewhere hence he got signed to Ofatsa Music Inc last year. With Ofatsa Music Inc Wakisa has just released Dalitsani anzanga hit plus its video and believe me its one of the kind video you wont afford to miss.
You might be wondering like what genre this young man is into, but hey the man is giving best of shots in reggae, dancehall and some afro R&B. Topview updates' reporter Lawrent Nyirenda asked Wakisa if maybe he may happen to be a rastaman but he made it very clear that he is by no means a rastaman.
"Hahahaha, nuh!! i just have a passion for reggae music, am not a rastaman. People gotta realise that one is not a rastaman just because he is into reggae music" said Wakisa
"Honestly i believe music is a way of communicating with different individuals out there, i try to give out music that will touch almost every corner of life as a whole. I believe in making music out of real life, if you give a listen to my works am sure you will get something out of it" he added.
Asked on how he sees the music industry in Malawi, Wakisa said he sees a brighter future in it. He points out a number of elements that are making the industry a better one like the fact that we now have a stiff competetion among producers who are doing the best they can to atleast uplift the standards of music in the country and that artists themselves are also working hard so as to give out what people need to hear.
Wakisa recently released a track titled wanga wanga which features the likes of Crispy, Ken Lo and Young Dre.He has also jumped on Cuff B's Love chemistry riddim and he makes it clear that his fans out there should expect more good music and videos from him.He would like to make 2015 a fruitful year as he will make sure that his name and his music gets all over Malawi and that he collaborates with atleast 2 of Malawi's cream in the urban music circles. Soon enough Wakisa will be dropping an album and a new music video so we urge you to keep an eye open so that you may see it coming.
If somebody would like to book or work with Wakisa, they have to go through his management team at Ofatsa Music Inc and their email address is ofatsamusic.inc@gmail.com or just call him directly on +265884207368
